Danny O'Donoghue (The Script)

The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue joins Vernon to choose ten songs that have soundtracked his life, including tracks by U2, Don McLean, The Police and Bob Dylan.

In a hilarious and emotional conversation, Danny recounts his childhood growing up surrounded by music in Ireland and how the opportunity presented itself for him to join the boyband Mytown in the 90s, taking him to America where he got to work with his musical heroes. He then tells Vernon about the decade he spent in America with his best friend Mark Sheehan working as songwriters and producers, before their one last throw of the dice resulted in getting signed as The Script. Danny also discusses how the loss of his parents has affected him, and pays tribute to Mark, who had been by his side for thirty years until he passed after a short illness in 2023.

The Script released their self-titled debut album in 2008, topping the UK and Ireland charts, and featuring early hits like Breakeven and The Man Who Can't Be Moved. To date they have released seven albums, with six of them hitting #1 in the UK, selling over 20 million records worldwide. Away from the band Danny has also been a coach on two series of The Voice UK. The Script's eighth album The User's Guide To Being Human comes out next month and the band are playing Radio 2 In The Park in Stirling in September.
