94. Remembering Patricia 'Paddy' Greene as Jill Archer
Emma Freud and guests remember Patricia 'Paddy' Greene, who died in July 2026 aged 95. She had played Jill since 1957, making her the longest-serving cast member of The Archers.
Emma Freud invites Tim Bentinck, who plays David Archer, Jeremy Howe, editor of The Archers, and former producer Julie Beckett to share their memories of Patricia 'Paddy' Greene, who played Jill Archer for almost 70 years. We find out about Paddy's mischievous side, her words of wisdom for fellow cast members, and her opinions of her character Jill. We also hear some of her earliest appearances, including a fierce argument from 1962 between Jill and her husband Phil.
Emma also finds out what happens when world events need to be reflected in Ambridge. How does The Archers broadcast World Cup results in real time? And how did producer Julie Beckett secure a live recording in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen Mother? Editor Jeremy Howe explains the art of the topical insert.
