Firefighters rescue 'wee hedgehog' stuck in drain

Firefighters rescued the small mammal from a drain on Friday evening

Firefighters in Shropshire have rescued a hedgehog which was trapped in a drain.

Ellesmere Fire Station shared the details of the rescue on social media, saying they had been mobilised to a "small animal rescue" at 19:10 BST on Friday.

Volunteers from Cuan Wildlife Rescue were also in attendance.

Crews used small tools to break through concrete which exposed the drain, with a spokesperson for the fire service saying crews "released the wee hedgehog from its predicament", into the care of Cuan Wildlife Rescue.

On the same day, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it also rescued three kittens from a derelict building in Wellington after falling through the roof.
