Experts unveil 'ambitious vision' for dementia care
University of NorthamptonExperts and stakeholders have unveiled their "ambitious vision" for dementia care to the public.
On 15 July, more than 100 people attended the Brain Health and Dementia Coproduction Forum launch event at the University of Northampton (UON).
Dr Natasha Bayes, a researcher at UON, announced that from September, the group would meet regularly, listen to the public's thoughts and convert them into something actionable.
Dementia is a broad term for a decline in cognitive abilities and memory, usually with age, and there are currently 9,163 people affected by it in Northamptonshire, according to NHS England.
'Palpable energy'
The forum launch heard personal stories about living with dementia, the main pillars of the dementia strategy, and what projects were available to underserved groups, such as Northampton's black community.
The event was co-hosted by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) and Northamptonshire Carers. The latter will eventually take over sessions.
Bayes described "palpable energy and thirst for knowledge and discovery" from attendees at the first meeting.
