Murder arrest after woman found dead inside flat

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman at a block of flats in Leeds.

The 58-year-old woman was found with fatal injuries inside one of the flats at Cottingley Towers at about 23:40 BST on Friday and was believed to have died at the scene, police said.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of her murder and remained in custody, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

They said that officers were treating the woman's death as an isolated incident and were not looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation. The woman's family was being supported by specialist officers, they added.

Temporary Det Ch Insp Eleanor Buchanan, leading the investigation, said: "This has clearly been a very serious incident and we are continuing to investigate the circumstances of what took place at this address.

"Incidents such as this rightly cause concern among communities and I want to assure residents all necessary resources are being used to investigate what took place."

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
