Councillor arrested after failing to attend court
Great Yarmouth Borough CouncilA district councillor has been arrested after handing himself into police following his failure to attend a court case.
Justin Rundle, 49, an independent councillor representing Ormesby on Great Yarmouth Borough Council in Norfolk, was charged with assault, possessing a blade in public and resisting arrest.
He was due to appear at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday but a warrant for his arrest was issued after he did not show up for the hearing.
Rundle was arrested on 23 June following an incident in Caister-on-Sea the previous day, Norfolk Police said.
Rundle, of West Road, Ormesby, has been a district councillor since 2023 and has also served on Ormesby St Margaret with Scratby Parish Council.

A Norfolk Police spokesperson said Rundle was arrested this morning and was being questioned at Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre after "handing himself into police".
A Great Yarmouth Borough Council spokesperson said: ''[The authority] is aware that one of its elected members has been charged with a number of offences.
"Given legal proceedings are ongoing it would not be appropriate for the council to comment further at this time.''
