Vauxhall site redevelopment plans win approval

Plans to redevelop the former Vauxhall Motors plant have been approved by Luton Borough Council.

Goodman has been told it can demolish the plant and redevelop the site in Kimpton Road, where production ceased in March 2025, with the first commercial units ready for use in 2028.

The company's Simon Fischer told the council's development management committee meeting on Wednesday: "Our proposals are all about regenerating the site to create high-quality employment space where businesses will want to come."

Councillors approved the outline plans for the site, subject to conditions related to noise, air quality and monitoring the impact of construction.

Goodman said potential jobs could include roles in advanced manufacturing, logistics and digital industries.

During the meeting, some members raised concerns the site could become dominated by warehousing rather than manufacturing or office units.

But Fischer said the site could eventually be home to about 2,400 direct jobs and a further 400 indirect jobs.

A café is planned as part of the scheme, with councillors suggesting it could be used to display items linked to the site's Vauxhall heritage.
