PM Burnham agrees not to 'ruin vibe' at wedding

A bride-to-be who is set to get married in the building which houses No 10 North has said she feels relieved after Prime Minister Andy Burnham agreed not to ruin her wedding "vibe".

The PM plans to spend at least one day a week at the new base in Heron House, where the Manchester Registry Office is also based.

In a TikTok post that reached one million views, Sarah Burwin raised fears the heavy security outside could "ruin the vibe", leading Burnham himself respond to say "noted Saz".

She said she "laughed out loud" at his response, adding: "The fact he called me Saz as well. We're basically mates now."

Bridal parties have been seen outside the building on Lloyd Street, where there was now a bigger police presence after Burnham launched No 10 North at the start of his premiership last week.

Sarah, from Manchester, said she noticed the building when it appeared on the news and thought, "wait, that looks familiar".

The 34-year-old said she posted her video "mainly as a bit of light-hearted fun after seeing the news coverage of No 10 North and the chaos outside".

"I was really worried honestly, because the place was surrounded by police, bollards and crowds of people," she said.

"I worried how we would even get in."

Sarah said she has been shocked by the response to her post.

"It was just a silly video I posted to my small following," she said.

"I had no idea it would reach one million views and the actual prime minister."

She said she and her partner Fred were due to be married on 21 August, and had been planning the wedding since he proposed to her at Fletcher Moss in Didsbury in 2024.

"At first, I was worried the wedding would be cancelled, as I had a lot of comments from people saying there's no way they'll still be doing weddings there," she said.

"I've since learned that is not true."

She said she was also concerned about what the new security measures could mean.

"How would we even get to the building and would we have to be patted down?" she said.

"I'm worried its going to be really strict and we may not be able to gather outside to take photos or even chat with guests.

"They might usher us on once we leave the building but hopefully not."

It was not just the prime minister who responded to her post, but also Sacha Lord, the chairman of the Night Time Industries Association, who worked with Burnham when he was Greater Manchester mayor.

Sarah said she asked him "to throw me an afterparty and he replied: 'Me and Andy back to back on the decks?'"

"Honestly, that would be a dream.

"I told him to have his people call my people."
