Barn fire and 1,000 tonnes of hay left to burn out

A large barn containing 1,000 tonnes of hay bales is on fire and is expected to continue burning into the evening, the fire service has said.

Crews were called Throop Hollow, near Bere Regis, Dorset, at about 06:45 BST where the 40m-long building was alight.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said the blaze would be left to "burn out" and it was likely to be a "protracted incident".

The farmer and crews are monitoring the burning building and cooling the boundary to ensure the fire does not spread.

Fire crews, a water carrier from Poole and a Unimog off-road fire truck are at the scene, assisted by water bowsers from the farm.

The incident follows another barn fire at Whitchurch Canonicorum, near Bridport, on Thursday involving 100 tonnes of hay, which took 10 hours to put out.
